Life after Covid-19: Views from Mauritians

after-covid-19-mauritius

We're the start of April and health specialists around the World are saying that we're now in the eye of the storm when it comes to Covid-19. And the media has been feeding on various news lately and creating sensational headlines that would definitely scare than reassure the public.
(TIP): While it is worthwhile for you to keep up-to-date with the latest news on Covid-19 in your country, I have also been keeping it on lockdown from my everyday life. If you really listen to the news the whole day, then you are surely not going to have a good day - and that's my simple view.

So, recently I asked some people on my Instagram, Facebook and families what they hope to see in the world after the Covid-19 is gone. I want to thank everyone who responded with their wishes and for giving their honest opinions (PS: I've used initials for confidentiality and security):

H.S - "Less pollution, Nature starts living, water becomes clearer and animals are free"
S.C - "I wish that people will finally understand what is really essential in life"
K.R - "Peace and love"
D.B - "More humility and kindness"
G.H - "Parents finally realize how hard it is to discipline children"
R.P - "Life is not always about work"
K.H - "People realize that life is fragile and can stop at anytime"
L.N - "Anything can happen, so live to the fullest"
A.B - "People start thinking more about the effects of their actions"
P.K - "No more exams to test intelligence of students"
A.L - "Health is wealth"
A.S - "We need to be 10x better"
H.S - "We are all equal"
D.S - "People are nicer"
C.G - "We learn to make time for ourself"
S.F - "People are more humble"
K.F - "What really matters is family"
H.G - "YOLO"
Y.K - "Take every opportunity that comes your way"
B.L - "People are kinder"

While I do agree with all of these responses, here is my personal opinion:

People are comfortable with familiarity and even if after this pandemic, we are able to be better people and be gentler, people usually always go back to their old ways because that's where they feel the most comfortable in. People never truly change, they just find new ways to do old things. In a nutshell, I believe that some people will change and be better and grateful for what they have while there will still be others who will not change their old ways.

The rest is really up to you. What you decide to be and do after this Covid-19 crisis will determine how you contribute to the future.
