I Left My High-Paying Job to Follow Happiness (Call me Cray!)

Here I am (finally!), after 1 complete year...back to doing what I love. I literally forgot how good it felt to write here and how free it was...but the pandemic has opened my eyes to a lot of things and the best thing I learned is to chase happiness.

As you can see from the title - yes, I quit my job! And it was scary but mostly exciting and I am (still) happy with my decision. Sometimes, it's just good to take time and think about your life and where you're heading to as things reveal themselves to you and allows you to take decisions for your own good.

And so if you are experiencing any of the following things below, then maybe it is time for you to hit that pause button and ask yourself if you are where you need to be...

Miserably Smiling

I was a good employee. I showed up at work on time, I did my hours of work, I never took more than was required for my break times and all my work were completed on time. So what was the issue? The issue was I was unhappy, I did not feel fulfil and I was truly miserable - but would wear a smile everyday trying to convince others (and sometimes myself) that all is good.

My advice - don't fake it - if you're not feeling happy, then say it out loud and embrace that uncertainty. Discover what it means to be unhappy and work towards being happy.

My Dream Or Yours?

Another thing that I also couldn't wrapped my mind around was the fact that I was giving my 100% for the company (and the company was treating us well - no issues there) but all that effort, energy and talent was going into realizing someone else's dreams - in this case, the CEO or shareholders of the company... And this got me thinking- what would happen if I dedicated that much effort, energy and talent into investing in MY OWN DREAMS? What will I be able to create?

My advice - You have only 1 life to live and you owe it to yourself to make YOUR dreams come true - not that of others. So dare to dream and click here for 5 simple steps to achieving your dreams and goals.

Who is Truly Rich?

Another big thing that motivated my resignation was the yearn to experience something bigger in life than the normal tale that we're told to live - born, learn, get a job, build a house, get married, have kids, grow old. I don't want to live this narrative that we're told to live - I want to live life on my own terms and breaking free from the traditional work was the first step towards this goal.

My advice - be curious, ask questions, explore the world. Don't let the expectations of others tame down your hunger for adventures and grow rich in knowledge, experience and memories.
