Bored at Home? Here are Some Things you Can do!

home-quarantine-mauritius

Today is the 11th day that I have not step out of my house and while I have been trying to reassure myself that everything will soon be back to normal, I suddenly had a thought - "This home quarantine is not going away anytime soon" and there are literally 2 ways on how I can deal with this situation:

1) I can either drown myself in anxiety and freak out on every person who comes close to me.
2) Or I can sit around and watch horrible and cheesy Netflix shows and movies all day long.

While the second option do seem rather appealing (I won't lie, there's nothing more comfortable than being in your jammies and watching movies and TV shows an entire day), I really wanted to take this moment to evaluate what we could INSTEAD be doing. So I tried to come up with some much better things that we could all be doing right now:

Learn Something New

Being forced to stay at home is the best time for you to learn and develop a new skill or language! You no longer have that excuse of "I don't have time" or "I'm busy with work" now. And I know what you might be thinking - how can I learn something new while staying inside? Well, that's how the power of technology comes in play (I know, it's shocking that your mobile/laptop/tablet can be used to do other things rather than spending time on Facebook or Netflix).

There are million of videos, tutorials and DIYs available on Youtube or Google where you can learn a lot of new stuff. And you can literally learn anything on the Web, so get online and get searching on what new things you want to learn. And it does not always need to be something big or extravagant, anything that you find interesting is good to go. Whether you want to learn how to play the guitar or how to fix a broken lamp, anything is good to add to your skill set.

Move Your Body

I know it is very tempting to lay on the bed the whole day and do nothing but your body still needs the daily activity it was used to. Do some exercises, stretch a little bit and move your body! And there are a lot of online videos where coaches are giving lessons and inviting people to get their daily stress shaken out of their body. And heck you can even learn dancing as well, now is the right time to pursue whatever you want.

Re-Evaluation and Planning

It is also the perfect time to do some re-evaluation and planning for the next part of this quarantine. You can take a look at your goals, vision and really where you want to be. This home confinement is really allowing a lot of people to dig deeper into their goals and envision where they want to be in life after this Covid-19 situation is over.

Quality Time with Loved Ones

It goes without saying that the best part about this quarantine is being able to spend time with your loved ones. We were all always so busy with work and school that we sometimes forget the most important thing in our life - pausing and spending time with people we appreciate, well this is the right time to do it. And for those living alone, you can always call your loved ones and talk to them or even enjoy your own company.

This is also the right time to think about people who you have maybe not gotten in touch in a while and to let old grudges be gone and really establish a more meaningful connection with people from the past.

Above all, what I really want my readers to take away from this post is that this is not the time to be stuck in your room with anxiety or binge-watch the last season of a TV show that no one will remember in 10 years from now. Use this time to make something meaningful because once this home quarantine is over, life will be back to normal and I am sure you will then realize all the things you could have done. Start today and do something that you have been wanting to do for a long time.

And comment below if you have any other advice on how to make this period of our lives more meaningful.
